AHRA Regional Research Student Forum:
School of Architecture, University of Sheffield
20th October 2004

Programme

Call for papers:
A one-day event, to be organised by postgraduate students from the University of Sheffield, the Forum aims to give architectural research students working in the humanities an opportunity to present their work to an audience of their peers. Participants will have the chance to gain useful feedback on their own work and to form an overview of the interests and methodologies of other researchers in the field.

The event will close with a lecture from Kim Dovey, Professor of Architecture and Urban Design, University of Melbourne. The Forum is held in association with AHRA (Architectural Humanities Research Association). The Forum will not be refereed – rather, the emphasis will be on mutual criticism. Traditional-style conference papers will be welcome, but potential participants are invited to talk about their methodology or work they intend to do. Those just starting out on their PhDs will be as welcome as those who have nearly completed. Presentations on any topic within the architectural humanities will be considered acceptable – we hope that diversity may encourage debate. Participants will be allocated a half-hour slot in which they will be expected to give a 15-20 minute presentation of their work, and then take questions. Any student currently engaged on a full-time or part-time degree at MPhil or PhD level from a school of architecture in the Midlands region* working in the humanities can give a presentation at the Forum. Academic staff are invited to join the audience.

Application Procedure:

There will be no vetting procedure for the Forum. We would ask that any student who wishes to present send an abstract of 300- 500 words in length so that we can place participants in an appropriate session. We would be grateful if applicants could let us know what equipment they would need to deliver their presentation (data projectors, slide projectors and overhead projectors will be available).

The deadline for applications is Friday 24th September, 2004. Please send abstracts in the body of the e-mail (not as attachments) to Alan Lewis at arp01apl@sheffield.ac.uk.

Please note that there will be no charge for attendance at the Forum. Further Details Details of the Forum can also be found on the School website, available at:
